Over 9100 Pencils Donated to Local Students Just in Time for Testing
Shelbyville, TN: Today, SHEPENCO Inc., a 4th generation family owned and operated promotional product writing instrument company, visited each school in its home county, Bedford. Sufficient pencils were provided for each student to commemorate Hymen Lipman receiving the first patent for attaching an eraser to the end of a pencil on March 30, 1858. SHEPENCO is looking to start this yearly initiative to help aid with the shortage of school supplies that many schools experience daily. Each of the over 9100 elementary, middle, and high school students in the Bedford County School District received their pencils Thursday the 21st and Friday the 22nd in advance of their Spring Break vacation.
Upon delivery of the pencils to his school, Harris Middle School Principal Neil Watson said, “Delivering pencils to all of the students in our school and all of the schools in our district is a huge blessing. These #2 pencils are coming right in time for our Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program (TCAP) testing. We are very thankful for the Shelbyville Pencil Company and how they are uniquely involved with our community.”
