New Feature: Customizable Website Header

February 4, 2008

We’ve added a new feature to the website editor that has been topping the request lists for quite some time. That is the ability to customize the header/logo area of your DistributorCentral-hosted websites. As our users have become more technologically savvy in terms of designing and maintaining their websites we have frequently been asked how to add things other than your simple logo to the header of your website.

By accessing the Sitewide Settings in your website editor control panel you can now add blocks to your header just as you do your footer or any other pages on your site.

By default your website will display either your company name or, if one has been uploaded, a logo at the top of your website. If you add blocks to your website header that information will be displayed instead of your company name or logo. Common block types that would be added to your website header include images/logos, a contact information block, links to your privacy policy or other general information, or even a link to a contact form. The options are endless.

To further allow for cutting-edge customization by power-users, you can also select one the new website templates that does not include a stock navigation bar. This allows you to create your own navigation bar along with the rest of the information displayed in your header, or even drop in a Flash-driven header and navigation area. You will need some HTML or possibly some outside design consultation to implement these types of scenarios, but given the knowledge and skills you now have complete control over the layout and header in your website.
